Wealden's router cutters used on superyacht

Wealden recently supplied a selection of router cutters to a long-standing customer involved in the construction of the superyacht Vava II. Built entirely in Plymouth at an alleged cost of more than £100m, the vessel is the largest private motor yacht ever constructed in Britain.

The vessel took more than 200 craftsmen over two years to complete and was christened by Devonport Yachts on 10th September with sea trials taking place in October.

Wealden add three-flute solid carbide rougher cutters to spiral ranges

Wealden now stock a new range of high quality micro-grain solid carbide rougher upcut spirals.

Roughing cutters are designed for high feed rates on CNC routers in dense materials such as hardwoods and plywood, when surface finish is not important. The rougher bit makes the first cut, followed by a second cut using a profile type tool.

These cutters will produce a rippled edge to the cut and are extremely quiet and smooth in operation, even with heavy cuts and high feed rates.

Many thanks to all our customers in the UK, Europe and as far afield as Australia for your continued support in 2010 - we really appreciate that you chose Wealden.

Our sales office is closed from noon on Friday, 24th December until 8am on Tuesday, 4th January, 2011. However, orders placed on the Wealden website throughout this time will be processed before the VAT increase to 20%, which takes place at midnight on Monday, 3rd January.

Steve Prescott's picture framing techniques features Wealden's exclusive new cutters

Steve Prescott, who writes regularly for British Woodworking magazine, has just completed an article on picture framing techniques using some of Wealden's new range of picture framing router cutters.

Steve used the Limone cutter (part number T3707)to make a frame in ash with walnut stringing detail and the Lanterns cutter (part number T3705) to make a smaller frame in American black walnut. The Victoria cutter (part number T3713) made a small frame in rippled sycamore, while Steve used the Wave cutter (part number T3709) to make an attractive octagonal frame in oak. Finally, using the Ripple cutter (part number T3711), Steve made a triple window picture frame in oak.

He also used some of Wealden's dowel drills to insert strengthening dowels into the mitred corners of the frame.

Wealden add more routing accessory products to range

Now in stock is a router centring cone, or alignment cone, which is very useful for aligning guide bushes and for checking the concentricity of a router base with the motor spindle. The cone is available to buy on line from Wealden.

Also now in stock is Trend's N-Compass Circle Jig, which will rout circles from 25mm to 200mm diameter, with optional extension rods which allow an increase of 560mm. Special Offer on Wealden's Raise-A-Panel Cutters

A common requirement is the production of mock panelling on solid timber or MDF panels for furniture manufacture, an operation usually carried out using a template with a top bearing-guided Classic Ogee cutter. Although effective, this does not resemble a true raised panel.

Wealden's unique system uses two cutters which, with two passes using the same template, will produce an effect that more closely echoes a traditional raised panel. Designed by and unique to Wealden, two sizes are available, producing either a 30mm or 40mm wide moulding with a moulded groove of 10-12mm.

Wealden's Tenon Cutter converts router tables into mini spindle moulder

The "New Tools" section in the latest issue of British Woodworking magazine features an article about Wealden's Tenon Cutter.

This is a great value router cutter which allows a tenon to be cut in one pass - an operation difficult with standard cutters. Essentially, the Tenon cutter converts a router table into a miniature spindle moulder, the blades of the cutter being alternately skewed to cut the shoulders of the tenon with a shearing action for a better finish.

Flat Bits and Slotted Countersinks added to Wealden's range of accessories

Wealden have added a comprehensive range of flat bits and several sizes of slotted countersink cutters to their already extensive range.

The flat or spade bits are available in diameter sizes from 6mm to 38mm and produce a precise cut with spot precision drilling for soft and hard timbers.

The new Trend Modular Window System is the latest innovation in timber window construction, which allows timber windows to be made quickly and accurately on a spindle moulder with minimal set-up time.

Eight different styles of window can be made on various makes of spindle moulders with a sliding table. It is simple, quick and easy to set up for any person with limited machinery experience. Ideal for small to medium sized joinery companies, it has a low investment cost and produces any quantity of windows, even one-offs, without lengthy set-up time and costly test cuts.

Many of the tools are shared across all window styles, so other styles can be added with minimal extra cost.

Wealden's Multi-Shape router cutters featured in The Woodworker

The Woodworker magazine recently featured an article by Ron Fox on Wealden's Multi-Profile cutters.

Ron explains the vast range of mouldings and profiles which can be produced by a small number of multi-profile cutters. Most are large cutters on 1/2" shanks for use in a router table, but several are also available on 1/4" or 8mm shanks for medium power routers and hand-held use.
